A. As difficult as it was for me to be retro-spective and peaceful this year, i credit these two artists for the times i could get all nostalgic and "writey" as i like to call it. Few artists are as expressive as these two can be, and i could listen to 90% of their songs on repeat forever, i'm sure. I've known about Regina for quite sometime, but this song really got to me this year, when i discovered it on youtube (of all places). It's called Braille, and for some reason, it has so much immense emotional power, that you can't help but just sit and listen to the lyrics, the melody, and the feelings behind the song. Since i don't neccessarily purchase albums anymore (and i don't steal either! I just live off of radio and youtube playlists... i swear...), i couldn't tell you which album of hers is my favorite. Instead listen to a single, and go from there.
However, i can pick a favorite album of this lovely lady. A young Alanis Morrissette (sp?!), Serena Ryder is down home Canadian talent, and she does her country proud (i am sounding like a cd review yet?!) I'll even go one step further and provide you with a visual.
Also, another cd of hers worth checking out is called "If Your Memory Serves You Well" which is a cover of notable Canadian artists, throughout the years. And i must say. Incredible. My sister and I discovered Serena at the Juno awards this year, where we were lucky (and determined enough) to get front row spots, when it was filmed in Vancouver this year. The show was incredible, but i walked away knowing i just discovered an incredible artist (and i was also surprised i had never heard of her before!). It is really sad to know that there is incredible talent out there that isn't making on the radio, and it makes you wonder why. Those people who fall between the cracks. They aren't really country, they aren't really pop, that my friends is where the great talent lies.
