A. Wow! I started a lot of projects this year, and it's hard to decide which one. I can probably narrow the group down by looking at the ones that i actually finished.. or.. the ones that i am still continuing (i.e. this blog, or even this best 2009 challenge). I taught myself how to knit this year, which was actually a pretty awesome experience. However, it doesn't seem to calm my nerves as much as everyone says it will. I'm pretty sure i find watching tv just about as relaxing and stress relieving than knitting. Maybe it will get more relaxing once i don't have to concentrate so hard on not screwing up. Anyhow, i am 3 mini projects in (and completed!) with a fourth one in progress. Now that the ones that were sent as gifts are opened, i can share pictures of my creations!
I plan on carrying this new hobby into the new year, with a few more projects added to my knitting wish list (and hopefully broadening my project spectrum a little, and branching out into a blanket or sweater or two!)
Q. Number 22 Startup. What's a business that you found this year that you love? Who thought it up? What makes it special?
A. Since i wasn't involved in any start-ups this year, or discovered any new start-ups that arose during 2009 - i am going to share the business that i found this year (even though it was founded a few years ago). My favorite business discovered this year was the online community on etsy.com - this business/organization/community/collection of artists was a heaven sent to me. Now, finally, i can shop of ultimately unique and handcrafted things without driving for hours in search of smaller stores selling such items. Now, i can spend hours at home, in my pjs, dreaming about decorations and accessories would wonderfully express my personality. It is a grand thing, i will tell you. Plus, the fact that i get to support growing artists makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Which is also why i like to share my favorites here to, because i feel that if im able to give those talented ones a little more exposure, i would be happy to do so. because really, we all need a little more handmade in our lives.
Q. Number 23 Web tool. It came into your work flow this year and now you couldn't live without it. It has simplified or improved your online experience.
A. To sum this one up the best i can - can i say this challenge?! Because wow - prior to completing this challenge, and reading about everyone else's web tools, i have gone web tool crazy! I honestly had no idea there were so many useful ones out there. A to-do list that you can store on the web so you never loose it? A travel itinerary website that gathers all the information from your confirmation email? Budgeting tools galore (except, if anyone has a canadian budget tool, could you please let me know?! Alot of the american ones aren't applicable to us northern folks!)
So to answer this question, my favorite web tool of 2009 is discovering web tools in general! I have a feeling that i will probably spend the next few weeks trying out alot of these, to find out which ones work best for me. Maybe when i do this challenge in 2010, i will be able to have a better answer for you!
Q. December 24 Learning experience. What was a lesson you learned this year that changed you?
A. This year i learned that everything does not rely on money. I learned that there are so many more things to do, and have fun doing, that involve little or no money. I suppose it is one of those things where a lot of people already know this, and it is common sense, but just have to experience it and come to this realization on our own.
I learned that the best gifts aren't always the most expensive, and money (or lack of) should not be used as an excuse for not connecting with family and friends.
Q. December 25 Gift. What's a gift you gave yourself this year that has kept on giving?
A. An answer in one photo (and many years in the waiting):
the gift that has opened many doors (sounds like some sort of proverb)
